200 Followers=Giveaway Time!

I offically have over 200 followers so it's now time for my first giveaway. I have chosen to give away a set of 8 Sight Word Tales Books. The set includes the following titles:
  • Does Polly Want A Cracker?
  • Don't Be Afraid, Monster
  • Have You Seen Jellybean?
  • How Do You Make a Giraffe Laugh?
  • One by One
  • The Penguins Are Going on Vacation
  • Some Dogs Are Very Good
  • What Shall I Bring The King?
I *love* these books and they are often requested at my comprehension center. I put out four different books at the center, along with a sheet that has short answer questions. I use the same sheet that I have had all year, which just asks them to identify the characters, the setting, and to draw their favorite part. Before we rotate centers, the kids in that group bring me their sheet and we go over their answers. They love this activity! I would like to start using something different with them, but I haven't come up with anything yet...this works very well though. Just ready for a little more of a challenge!

    I would use these to promote fluency in a literacy center. Since they are sight word books the children should be able to read most of the words fluently. I would have my students time each other reading and then ask each other to retell the story.

    I would use register tape and have them recreate the story by drawing on the register tape and then using it in a shoe box with slits cut out in the end and let them retell the story to the class sort of like a movie film.

    I would have students record sight words found in book on tally sheet.
    Also I would let them use highlighter tape to mark sight words in story!!

    I'm not really familiar with these books, but I have some task cards in my reading station and the kids love them! It really gets them to look carefully at the books. (Example: find a six letter word; how many words are in the title; find the word 'does') You could create a recording sheet with these kinds of questions so they are held more accountable for their findings.

    Ohh -- and I love these books! I like to have the kids read through them, and then make tally marks for the number of times they find that sight word in the book (and then other pre-selected books).
    I also use sight word dice to fill up any extra time.

    I would use these books in my word work center with the sight word quilt, so they could color the words as they read them. I could also use them as fluency builders, having students time each other during repeated readings.

    After reading these as a whole group, I would have my students find the HFW/ sight words & put highlighter tape on them. Then I would add them to my students table baskets for my students to practice reading them fluently during down time.

    I would use them in either a fluency center or in my word work center. They could use a tally chart to see how many times they can a word.

    I would use these books in my word work center. The students would have to read them and find the sight words. Write the sight words and make a sentence with them.

    We love highlighter tape in my classroom. Students highlight focus words from each book. They also like to tally and graph which focus words are found in the books most often.

    I love these books! One way I use them is... during our teacher led centers, I will read the page, and stop when the sight word is... then let the children tell me the word and how to spell it.

    These books would be great for the kiddos to read to one another. Since they are sight word readers, they should all feel successful! I don't have these books and they look great!

    I would use these books for a sight word tally and I would also have them create sentences with the frequent sight words in the books.
