Classroom Makeover Day 6: The Word Wall

I've never had so much trouble creating a board. It may not look like much, but after all I've gone through with this word wall (trying out three different backgrounds, running out of border, etc), I'm quite happy with the way it turned out. Yes, the boxes on the right might be a tad bigger than the rest, but at this point, I'm just happy to be done with it! What do y'all think?
It was coming a thunder storm as I was finishing up, so I quickly took the pic to show y'all, but forgot to take a close up of the letter circles I made. If you want a copy, let me know and I'll post! They can also be used for center activities too!

I'm working on my math board next. We adopted Go Math this year. Has anyone used this before? I'd love to hear about it!

  2. Used Go Math two years in a row for 1st grade. Pretty good stuff. You will need to supplement math facts and really focus on Doubles/Doubles plus 1. They give you a day with each. I found that skip counting was the hardest for the kids to grasp. Maybe it's chapter 9?

  6. I love using the Go Math program. Our school has it online (not sure if it's the same for everyone who purchases it) and there are links to great videos and math games online. The kids love all the technology that is incorporated into the program. But I do agree that one day per skill is not enough. I supplement the skills in small group and centers.
PS: your word wall is cute!

  8. GREAT JOB! You must feel so pleased to see your task accomplished! How do you create your Word Wall words; do you type them? do you outline the letters? do you use certain colors for certain words?

  9. Looks Great!!! I have got to find a place in my room to add a word wall. My students really do not use it all that much. I hate taking up space in my room for something that is not being used.ugh!! We also went to GO math this year. I think we are going to like it. I have only heard good things!

  10. Did you use fabric or paper for the background? Is it up with tape? I have such a hard time getting things to stick without falling down. It looks great!
