If I Were the Easter Bunny

Forgive me, I realize this is my third post today, but since I've just finished up this mini unit and I knew a lot of you were already doing Easter activities with your classes, I wanted to let y'all know about it. I've created a literary companion for the book If I Were the Easter Bunny by Lousie Gardner. Such a cute book. If you haven't read it, click here to get a summary of it.

Included in the literary companion are patterns to this bunny craft:

Easter Math Centers

I've just uploaded my Easter math center activities. You can find here. First three to comment get a free copy.
*** I've had a lot of people email saying their comments aren't showing up. I set my comments to post only after I've approved them, so no comments will appear until I publish them. If you click 'post', I will receive your comment and publish it when I log onto blogger the next time. So just because you don't see your comment or any comment for that matter, doesn't mean it didn't go.
It'll just keep you guessing! ;) ;)

For those who have emailed and asked about Easter math centers, I'm working on those, along with a literary companion for the cutest Easter book, and also Unit 5 Questions of the day for the Reading Street series. Look for these within the next couple of days. It's Spring Break for me, so I'm hoping to catch up on things while working on my tan ( sadly just at home, not at the beach :( )
Isn't spring break great?? :)

Leprechauns and Schema Susie's accident

I just wanted to take a quick moment to share something funny that one of my kids noticed during the spelling test Friday. They raised their hand and said, " Ms. Leslie Ann, I think Schema Susie had an accident last night." We all looked to find this:

That pretty much sums up how the last few weeks have been. haha :) For example, we made cute leprechauns for St. Patrick's day and if I had been on top of things, I would have posted about them and provided patterns. Instead I'm blogging about them the day after. Oh well, it can be an idea for next year!

Spring Break is in ONE week. can.not.wait. I'm so hoping to get caught up on everything then.

Awesome Adjectives and Anchor Charts

We all know how much I love self portrait activities. I love how each of my kids draw themselves to reflect their personality. So when I saw this adorable "Awesome Adjectives" activity from First Grade Lyon's Den via Pinterest, I knew we had to recreate it in our classroom. Aren't they cute?

This week we're learning about Barnum Brown, aka Mr. Bones. This story is all about the discovery of the first t-rex. We made a brace map to help organize our facts. This was the first brace map I've ever created with this class and I was a little worried about how well they would catch on to the whole " could, had, and are" thing, but they really did a good job with it.
We also discussed what questions we would like to ask Barnum Brown if he were alive today. They loved this!

New Center Game, I wonder Chart, and Unit 4 Questions (finally!)

I've been lacking in blogging here lately and that's due to being absolutely swamped at work. I'm sure everyone is completely sick of all things Seuss, myself included! I never shared pictures from Dr. Seuss week, but to be honest, I was unusually bad about snapping pics this year. The only thing I captured were our Lorax and our Sneetches

I introduced a new center game this past week that my kids are BEGGING for every day now. It's not original, so I'm sure some of y'all know it. It's called SWAT.
The kids use the fly swatters to "swat" the word I call out. We use with our weekly words to know

These fly swatters are perfect for the game. I found them at the dollar store. Not the Dollar Tree, but the Dollar General store. They came in packs of 3.

Switching gears- Have y'all ever heard of the Primary Comprehension Toolkit? If not, google it now. Fabulous resource! I've been using it to help with nonfiction lessons. We created this chart from the toolkit and the kids were so engaged during the lesson.

Lastly, I have FINALLY uploaded the Questions of the Day for Unit 4 of the Scott Foresman Reading Street Series for First Grade. Sorry so late! Click here to download them :)
