Wacky Watermelon Wednesday

As you know if you've been reading my blog, we are just about finished up with the two week ABC review (thank goodness!) and will finally start our first reading story next week! I love getting into the actual story part of Reading Street so we can establish a routine and stick to it. For the ABC review, I pick a couple of letters to do special projects with, like the letter 'm', which we celebrate by having Muffins With Moms. Yesterday, in honor of the letter 'w', we had Wacky Watermelon Wednesday. We made a watermelon craft, wrote our first class book about wacky watermelons, took a survey to find out how many people in our class liked watermelons, and had a watermelon snack. Here are some of the pics of our watermelon board and class book :)

Join Goodreads!

Have you ever heard of Goodreads? I love, love, love this website! I mostly use it to record the books I have read and find reviews for my juicy chick lit books favorite classics, but I've recently been using it for picture books for the classroom. You can look up books by your favorite author, read reviews by others, and find lists that include similar books. Check it out and become my friend on the site to see books I use in the classroom by clicking here!

Favorites in First! TPT

I can't believe the year is almost over! And while these last four few days are dragging slowly by, I'm going to miss my sweet kids so much! To celebrate the end of first grade and to help us think back to all that we've done this year, we are making books. Each student has been working on his or her own 'Favorites in First' Book. The book includes pages for favorite reading theme, favorite story, favorite memory, and more! My kids are loving thinking back and remembering activities or events that has happened this year like our Muffins with Mom on Monday (when we were reviewing our ABC's), our Pumpkin Patch field trip, and our Olivia Author Study Celebration. You can find the templates for this end of the year wrap up activity by clicking the picture above or by clicking here!
